Fall is right around the corner and with that comes all our favorite things - PSLs, the Holiday’s, cute decor, and the best fashion. But one thing that is often overlooked is how our skin can react to the changes in season, especially when it goes from hot to cold.
During the cooler months, our skin can become inflamed, sensitive, dry, and irritated. This can lead to just an overall very uncomfortable experience - and we’re not about that. So below are 5 tips to help you transition your skincare routine for fall/winter.
1. Incorporate a thicker moisturizer
Thicker moisturizers generally come with different ingredients that provide better occlusivity to the skin, allowing better water retention - which is why in the morning your skin will feel more supple, and less dry/irritated.

2. Try a Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Hyaluronic Acid is one of the most overlooked and under appreciated products on the market. It is a powerhouse because it can attract moisture and bind to 1000x it’s weight in water. Pairing an HA serum with your thicker moisturizer will help to keep your skin healthy & hydrated all winter long.

3. Reduce your use of Retinol and exfoliating products
Retinol and exfoliating products can, for some, dry the skin out. So it’s a good idea to just reduce how often you’re using them. And if you are just starting to use a retinol in the winter, start with 1x/wk and gradually increase. An easy solution is to use a low-dose retinol like this one.
4. For dryer climates, add a humidifier to your room
Moisture! Moisture! Moisture! That’s what it’s all about! Adding a humidifier to your bedroom is an easy way to boost skin health without having to purchase products if that isn’t in your budget. Plus! Then everyone wins from having it!
5. Avoid super hot showers
Hot showers paired with harsh dry winters can wreak havoc on the skin. Turn down the temperature and be sure to use a moisturizing body lotion before drying off.
